While working on the Web Design assignment, I acquired several valuable skills, including the ability to link a Google Map directly on my website, which allows users to easily find locations relevant to the site’s content. I also learned how to apply essential design principles to make the site both visually appealing and user-friendly. For instance, I used contrast by choosing a color scheme that made text and images stand out against the background, enhancing readability. I also applied alignment by ensuring that headings, text, and images were consistently aligned for a clean and organized look. Additionally, I used proximity by grouping related information together, making it easier for users to find what they need without feeling overwhelmed. I enjoyed experimenting with design elements and seeing how small adjustments could impact the user experience. However, the coding aspect felt a bit tedious at times. Website design skills like these can be helpful in my future career, as I may need to create professional websites, portfolios, or digital presentations that communicate effectively with an audience.
A creative way to use QR codes in the classroom would be to create a “QR Code Scavenger Hunt.” For example, I could place QR codes around the classroom that link to interactive content, videos, or quiz questions related to our current lesson. Each QR code would reveal a clue or resource that helps students progress to the next stage of the scavenger hunt. This approach could add excitement to the lesson, promote teamwork, and engage students with the material in a dynamic, tech-friendly way.
Case study related to ethical use of technology: A teacher uses a productivity app to help manage grading and attendance. The app requires student data, including names and ID numbers, to function efficiently. After some time, the teacher realizes the app has been collecting and storing student data in an unsecured format, raising concerns about student privacy and data security.
To address this case, I would first stop using the app immediately and alert the school’s IT department or administration about the data security concern. Next, I would seek a more secure, approved tool that aligns with data privacy standards, such as FERPA, to handle sensitive student information. In addition, I would notify parents and students about the data issue transparently and explain how we’re safeguarding their information moving forward. This approach is ethical because it prioritizes the privacy and security of student data, ensuring that technology used for productivity does not come at the expense of student rights. It also upholds transparency, accountability, and trust with students and parents by clearly communicating the situation and corrective actions.
I loved your website! The warm yellows and consistent bee motif not only make for an interesting website design, but it also radiates good vibes for your classroom! The spacing of every feature also works nicely to avoid a cluttered feeling in your website. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThe website design generally follows key principles of contrast, repetition, alignment, and proximity, but there are areas for improvement. The text has good contrast with backgrounds, though some lighter-colored text could benefit from stronger contrast for better readability. The consistent use of fonts and colors helps create a unified look, though introducing more variation in font weights and colors could strengthen visual hierarchy. While the text alignment is clear and organized, image and content placement could benefit from more consistent alignment, especially in the image gallery and sidebar. In terms of proximity, related content is grouped effectively, but there is room for improvement in the spacing between sections to create a more balanced, less cramped layout. Overall, with some refinement in spacing, contrast, and alignment, the site could feel more cohesive and visually engaging.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your website design! It's clean, user-friendly, and visually appealing, with a great balance of text and images. The way you applied design principles like contrast, alignment, and proximity makes the site easy to navigate. Including your pictures and degrees really helps put a face to the name, which adds a personal touch and makes the site feel more approachable. Your approach to the data privacy issue is responsible and shows that you're thinking critically about both security and transparency. Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteHi Kamya! I love your website, maybe I just have a soft spot for bee themed designs but I just really loved it. My favorite little bit is the button at the front of the website that takes you directly to class policies. I just thought it was a smart use of website space.
